The Colorful Sri Maha Mariamman Hindu Temple in KL

Hello, I'm back with another post. Today, I'll take you to the oldest Hindu temple in Kuala Lumpur. It's called Sri Maha Mariamman. I was excited to enter the premises because as you can see from the photo below, it's colorful and vibrant.

About the Temple: It was named after goddess Mariamman

A beautiful temple in Kuala Lumpur

The temple was built in the 1870s to honor Hindu rain goddess Mariamman. She was known to be a force of nature and a healer. Most artists depict her as a beautiful young woman wearing layers of accessories. She also holds a trident in one hand.

There were so many hues and intricate carvings on almost every corner. Everything exuded beauty and life. These were all pleasant to the eyes. I liked how lovely it was. Divine.

We went there on a weekday, so it wasn’t as crowded as I expected it to be; that allowed us to walk around freely without bumping into large groups (like how it would be in other tourist spots).

This is their prayer hall. I noticed the extra garlands, so I asked the cleaner if there was a special occasion, and indeed there was. A traditional Hindu wedding ceremony took place in the hall that morning, and the sofa in the photo was for them. Best wishes to the newlyweds (whoever they were)! ❤️

In Hinduism, followers believe in a supreme God they call Brahman (which they also say is present in each of us).
